Protecting tourist rights
Ensure tourists have a positive and secure experience, and that their rights are protected throughout their visit.
The TTSSP is a key organisation in Tanzania's tourism industry, dedicated to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of tourists. It is a vital partner to the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) and other government and private sector entities.
The core mission of the TTSSP is to safeguard the rights and protection of tourists, while simultaneously raising the standards of safety and security within the entire tourism sector.
Ensure tourists have a positive and secure experience, and that their rights are protected throughout their visit.
Enhance security measures within the tourism sector through close collaboration with government and security agencies.
Set safety and security standards for tourism businesses, from hotels and tour operators to transportation providers. Businesses that meet these standards may be authorised to use the TTSSP logo.
Coordinate a national response to tourism-related crises, ensuring a swift and effective resolution to challenges that may arise.
Coordinate programmes that build the safety and security capabilities of stakeholders across the tourism industry.
Promote collaboration between the public and private sectors to create a unified approach to tourism safety and security.
The TTSSP's work extends to practical functions that directly affect the tourist experience.
The organisation audits tourism businesses to ensure they comply with TTSSP safety and security standards. Continued compliance is necessary for business licensing.
In a joint venture with the TTB, TTSSP is involved in creating Tourist Information Centres at major entry points and attractions, with information on attractions, safety, and services.
TTSSP provides ongoing monitoring and advice to public and private sector entities so safety and security stay in focus.
Service providers must follow SOPs designed to keep safety and service high. Tourists are encouraged to ask operators and hotels about their SOPs and TTSSP compliance.
The establishment and work of the TTSSP demonstrate Tanzania's commitment to becoming a leading and safe tourism destination in Africa. By setting and enforcing strict safety standards, promoting collaboration among stakeholders, and providing a framework for crisis management, the TTSSP helps build trust and confidence among international travellers, encouraging more people to explore the country's natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Before you make any booking or reservation to travel to Tanzania, please be proactive and ask for the following. This helps protect you from fraudulent operators and scams, and confirms the company is licensed and meets TTSSP standards.
Always ensure payments are made to a company bank account that is officially registered and named. This applies whether you choose a safari company, a hotel, or a tour operator. Asking for this information helps keep Tanzania safe for everyone.
The TTSSP logo is more than a symbol. It is a visible promise of the highest standards of safety, security, and integrity in Tanzanian tourism. Permission to use the logo is a privilege for officially recognised partners who have demonstrated and maintained full compliance with TTSSP standards and protocols. These guidelines protect the integrity of the TTSSP brand.
Approval is conditional upon continuous compliance. TTSSP may conduct unannounced audits. The licence is time-bound and non-transferable.
Tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, and other accommodation facilities that are officially registered and licensed with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and other relevant authorities. Entities must be in good standing and have passed the TTSSP safety and security audit.
Submit a formal application to TTSSP with: a copy of valid business licence(s) and certificate of incorporation; a declaration of full adherence to TTSSP SOPs; and a plan showing where and how the logo will be used (website, print, premises). Approved applicants receive a formal, time-bound, non-transferable licence.
The logo must be displayed with dignity and professionalism, and only using official files provided by TTSSP.
Do not alter, stretch, compress, rotate, or distort the logo. Do not change its colours. Do not add shadows, gradients, glow, or other effects. Use only the high-resolution files provided by TTSSP.
Keep a minimum clear space around the logo equal to at least half the height of the logo. The logo must stay large enough that all elements, especially the text, remain readable.
Websites: footer or a Certifications / About Us page. Print: brochures, flyers, business cards, and letterheads. Premises: a decal or sign at the entrance, office, or on company vehicles.
The logo means the business is an officially recognised TTSSP partner that meets safety and security standards. It must not imply a broader endorsement of unrelated products or services.
If permission is revoked, the logo must be removed immediately from all digital and physical assets, including websites, social media, print, and signage.
Do not use the logo for personal gain or personal projects. Do not display it without formal TTSSP authorisation. Do not use it after a licence expires or is revoked. Do not combine it with your company logo.
TTSSP may revoke permission if an entity fails these guidelines, fails a safety audit, misrepresents compliance, or harms the reputation of TTSSP or the Tanzanian tourism sector.
Please report any unauthorised or improper use of the TTSSP logo. Thank you for your commitment to a safer tourism industry in Tanzania.
